There is something about Vermont. It’s a refined sort of wilderness that I just love. You know, the ability to be at one with nature, and then go to the spa and then eat an epic meal. My kind of place. I was thrilled when Julie and Derek asked my to join them for not only their wedding, but their welcome dinner. I was able to soak up all the Vermont air for an entire weekend, and I also brought the fam along (to Vermont, not the wedding…don’t worry, I don’t bring my kid and my husband to weddings. If I did, you’d be paying me!).

Julie and Derek have vacationed in Vermont for some time now, and have always enjoyed escaping here for the weekend. It was a no-brainer when they decided to tie the knot at the Top Notch Resort in Stowe, Vermont. After these two got ready inside the Top Notch, we journeyed up to Edson Hill where they had their first look under the perfect little tree. After that, the weather. Got. Weird. But in a good way. The thunderstorm rolled in, and to say I started to have a photo geek out moment was an understatement. We had to move as quick as possible to position ourselves on this little hill to have the best vantage point of that moody sky. Julie and Derek were game to move quick before the rain started coming down. HARD.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t a quick storm and the ceremony had to be moved inside, but it was still stunning underneath the lights. Ideally, it won’t rain on your wedding day, but when it does, it makes for some great stories in the future!

After the ceremony, the sun came back out with a vengeance. We went from stormy moody portraits, to sun-filled bright portraits – such a great variety all because of the weather! And the sunset…unreal. These two truly had the best Vermont wedding day. The rain didn’t dampen their spirits, and they partied well into the night with those Vermont mountain shadows surrounding the tent and giving them a big squeeze.
