Sometimes it takes the start of spring for me to truly miss the winter…KIDDING! (Does anyone really think this?!) I can’t say that I miss the winter. At all. I do love winter (and all four seasons for that matter), but the amount of snow we received this year in such a short period of time really put me in a winter funk. So much so that I forgot to blog about the Get Fresh Retreat I went on with the talented Katie from Sweet Annie Floral Design and Alexis from The Little Things. Before I let these gorgeous winter photos slip away into oblivion, I wanted to share some photos from our lovely weekend at Spruceton Inn.
Spruceton Inn has an great all-around energy, and it was the perfect spot for Katie, Alexis and I to dream and scheme about the future of our businesses. From the very first interaction we had with the innkeeper, Casey, we knew that the weekend was going to be great and that we’d be in good company.
I woke up quite early that Saturday, right before dawn broke over the terrain. There was soft snow falling and a cool light – enough so that I could take some exterior shots.
They call that cute yellow cabin the Goatzebo, in their words “a cabin-turned-goat-pens-turned-back-to-a-gazebo for hanging out.” I didn’t realize until I had to leave that it was finished with its own fire pit, picnic table, and creek access, but rest assured when I go back in the summer – which I will! – I’ll explore.
When the girls woke up, we went over to Room 1 for breakfast, where coffee and Pop Tarts were served. We had such a great time chatting with everyone in the room, so much so that we got a late start to our day! That’s how great the company is at Spruceton.
Our walk into the “town” of West Kill, NY was picturesque and charming. We also met a blue-eyed albino horse along the way. He was pretty crazy looking!
After our walk, we made our way back to the room, where we did a super fun styled shoot (which I’ll blog about soon!). The rooms were outfitted in a minimalistic yet chic design and I loved the original artwork produced by Steven Weinberg, Casey’s husband who is a talented children’s book author and illustrator. And the beds…the beds! Very comfortable, and I could sense that the owners spent time picking them out to ensure guests received the best night of sleep possible.
After our shoot we headed on over to Room 1 to chill out at Conan’s Corner, the bar! From there, we enjoyed the rest of our afternoon and evening, and even spent some time making s’mores by the campfire. All in all, I’d highly recommend making your way out to Spruceton Inn. It’s a quick ride from Boston and New York. With minimal cell phone service and internet, you can truly reenergize and relax without technology.
